1 BIT PIXEL
1 Bit Pixel is a full frame-by-frame animator. Build frames along the timeline, preview with onion skin, and play it back.
Frames & timeline
Each frame is a column in the timeline. Tap + to add a frame, the … menu to duplicate or mute one, and set per-frame duration. Long-press the timeline to enter edit mode — drag to reorder, tap × to delete. Hit ▶ to play; set the FPS on the left.
Details & edge cases
- Every frame has its own duration in seconds; the FPS field is just a quick way to set them all at once.
- Muted frames are skipped in both playback and exported GIF, MP4 and sprite sheets.
- Playback loops back to the start or stops at the end, depending on the project's loop setting.
Onion skin
Onion skin shows ghosts of the previous and next frames behind the current one, so you can line up motion. Tune how many frames, the opacity falloff and the tint colors in Settings → Animation.
Details & edge cases
- Onion skin is a preview overlay only — it never draws into your frames or shows up in exports.
- Previous and next frames can use different tint colors, so you can tell direction at a glance.
- Set how many frames show and how fast they fade in Settings → Animation.
Tags & linked cels
Tags name a range of frames (e.g. "walk") with their own loop and direction (forward, reverse, ping-pong) — and you can play or export just that range. Linked cels share the same drawing across frames: edit one and the rest update together.
Details & edge cases
- A tag's range includes both its first and last frame.
- Each tag plays forward, reverse or ping-pong, with its own loop toggle.
- Linked cels share one drawing, so editing any linked frame updates them all — duplicate instead if you want an independent copy.
